Bok choy is such a forgotten vegetable. I don’t know about you, but I always think of broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, etc when it comes to veggies. After a while, these can get SO boring!! Enter bok choy: the Chinese white cabbage with crispy, crunchy stalks, and leafy green heads. Whether it’s stir fried, roasted, or even grilled, the veggie never disappoints.

My favorite way to enjoy bok choy is with Asian cuisine, as is traditional. In this Asian Sesame Garlic Bok Choy, the cabbage is stir fried in sesame oil and coated in a mouth-watering sauce. For real, though, this mixture of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili paste, honey, and tons of garlic, is a game-changer. You could honestly put this sauce on anything and it would become exponentially better. It’s that good!

In this Asian Sesame Garlic Bok Choy recipe, the sauce coats some stir fried baby bok choy. I love to use baby bok choy as opposed to the larger variety. For starters, I like it’s a lot less bitter, and pairs better with most mains. Plus, I often find that it has a larger leaf to stem ratio, making it more like spinach and less like celery. With a ton of leaves, a sweeter bite, and a little crunch, the baby bok choy is really the best.

Lastly, and arguably most important, is the sesame seeds. Although they may seem miniscule, that little crunch factor is so important in a simple side dish like this Asian Sesame Garlic Bok Choy. And, the toasty flavor of the sesame seeds pairs so nicely with the sesame oil, and really brings the dish together. If you don’t have any, any chopped nut would also be delicious… just make sure you get that crunch in there somehow!

Serving Suggestions!

I love to serve this Asian Sesame Garlic Bok Choy as a side dish to any Asian main course. Some of my favorites are my Skewerless Saucy Chicken Satay, my Kung Pao Chicken and Cauliflower, or my Healthier Extra Slaw Pad Thai. Another great way to incorporate this dish is in my Salmon Summer Roll in a Bowl. Alternatively, you could serve up an array of sides, like my Mushroom Kimchi Fried Wild Rice. I think it’s safe to say that I love Asian food, so any of these options would be delicious!

However you choose to serve it up, I hope you enjoy! Leave me a comment and rating below:)
